Wisconsin high school athletes will have the opportunity to share the stage with some of the most iconic names in state sports history this spring, as the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame today announced that it will recognize a male and female high school senior with an award and scholarship at the Hall of Fame’s 65th Anniversary Induction Event.
The Hupy & Abraham High School Athlete of the Year Award is open to current Wisconsin high school seniors who participate in sports and embody the traditions of athletic excellence and sportsmanship that the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame have embraced since 1951. The athletes will be honored on-stage at the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Event April 30, 2016, and presented with $1,000 college scholarships. The winning athlete’s high school athletic departments will also receive a monetary donation and tickets to the event, being held at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, to help celebrate the athlete’s achievement.

To apply, eligible athletes, or parents, coaches and administrators, are encouraged to submit an essay (500 words or less) outlining the student’s athletic achievements and describing how they are carrying on the proud tradition of Wisconsin athletics. Also being honored at the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Event are inductees Bo Ryan and Donald Driver. The pair join 135 of the state’s greatest athletic icons, including Vince Lombardi, Hank Aaron, Oscar Robertson, Barry Alvarez, Al McGuire, Bud Selig, Junior Bridgeman, Willie Davis, Herb Kohl, Bart Starr, Ab Nicholas, Bob Harlan, Fred Miller, Alan Kulwicki, Robin Yount, Bonnie Blair and Bob Uecker in one of the country’s most historic halls of fame. The Wisconsin Athletic Walk of Fame, located on 4th Street in Milwaukee’s downtown sports and entertainment district, contains bronze plaques commemorating the 135 members of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame. The Walk of Fame is free and open to the public 365 days a year.
