A National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee in Cooperstown, Fingers redefined the value of relievers in the game of baseball and facilitated the role of the modern closers. During his 17 years in the MLB, Fingers was named a seven-time All-Star, led the major league in saves three times, and was honored as Relief Man of the Year four times. Fingers was named MVP of the 1974 World Series with the Oakland A’s. Fingers led the Milwaukee Brewers to their first playoff appearance in 1981 and received the American League Most Valuable Player Awards and Cy Young Award. The Brewers have retired Rollie Fingers jersey.
